Project Description

We need a PROTOTYPE developed in Unity3D for a stand alone 3D car simulator. The Simulator needs to be developed for the Windows 7 platform.

The simulator will be single player and will involve a single movable car, several stationary cars and a straight length of road complete with kerb and guttering.

ROAD : A single stretch of road approx 20 meters long will need to be simulated. Road will be accurately modelled complete with kerb and guttering.

STATIONARY VEHCILES : 2 off stationary vehicles to be provided with the ability to accurately modify their positions on the road via a GUI component. Stationary vehicles are non drivable but should reflect accurate real world dimensions.

MOVEABLE CAR : 1 off drivable vehicle to be provided with the ability to pick the type of car from a dropdown list on the GUI. Vehicle parameterised to accurately reflect the length, width, wheelbase, turning circle, driver position and rear vision mirror position with these values read from some type of external file (text file or database OK) depending on the vehicle selected. It is expected that the car will be able to be driven both forward and backwards and able to turn. A view from the drivers seat is to be provided (right hand drive) and this position can be moved forward and back to simulate the drivers seat location (via GUI). From the driving position we expect to see an accurate mirror reflection in the passenger side mirror, the interior mirror and the drivers side mirror. The mirrors should be provided with a method to adjust their rotation and angle (via GUI object). The cars handling should accurately simulate the turning circle based upon the car dimensions selected. Due to the parameterised nature of this vehicle, simple cubes and cylinders can be used to construct this vehicle at runtime based upon the vehicle selected.

LAYOUT : It is expected that the main 3D view will be from the driving position of the vehicle with a top down overview (ortho) that follows the vehicle in the top right corner of the screen, and a larger view of a mirror in the top left corner. The mirror view will scroll through the 3 different mirrors via keypress.
