I have a letter, handwritten in German, that was sent to my husbands grandmother, Dora. The letter came from Dora's sister, Katarina, in 1957. Dora emigrated to the US in 1912, leaving her family behind in Russia. Their family were part of the Volga German population in Russia. So, while they were Russian citizens, they still conversed in German. A few years after arriving in the US, Dora ran into a person from the village she grew up in. This person told Dora that all of her family was dead as a result of the Bolshevik revolution and famine. Somehow, Dora's sister survived. Still, it was 1957 before Katarina sent a letter to Dora. The letter contains information on Katarina's family and other family members, as best i can tell. I know a tiny amount of German, but not enough to deal with the German script. The letter has less than 3000 characters, and is on jpeg.
