Hey Lynn! I fell on your profile while searching for a tutor and we have quite a few shared interests (programming (python, webscraping, etc), masters degree, data analysis, multi-lingual, Scriptwriting and filmmaking! how cool.)
But, with all that said, I would love to hire you as a programming tutor. I am setting this initially as $100 for me purchasing a 20 hour block of programming tutoring with you? We can discuss the details and time details that work best for both of us and the depth of the learning when we chat a bit and work on the timing logistics.
I am flexible, but I imagine us starting off with working through some super basic programming questions and challenges (from online or ones you make up on the spot, idc) and then hopefully we can accelerate into a project based way of learning after some small stretch of time.
I have a lot of self taught rudimentary cs and programming knowledge, but really have no practical experience coding. I am hiring you so that I can practice practice and practice, but alongside someone with excellent skills so I don't waste my time.
I currently bring lots of book knowledge but can't code. I mean I can copy and paste and tweak, and I can write tiny snippets to tie things others have written to work, so I'm not at zero. But wouldn't say I can code, on my own, from scratch with an idea in mind.
I live in Chicago, and it looks like we are in a very similar timezone area, contrary to the bulk of freelancers lol, which will help us coordinate time easier.
I speak english as my primary language.
My number one goal is to learn enough with you so that I can be a competitive candidate for an internship or even a jr level dev. My secondary goal would be to become strong enough that I can take on freelance jobs, and build a very solid porfolio for my primary goal.
My primary interests are in Clinical medial research, data analysis, python, underlying cs concepts, android/java, and generative artistic programming and machine learning.
I mentioned screenwriting and filming waaay up there. I work in the film industry in Chicago. I'm SAG eligible, have a decent chunk of IMDB credits, write scripts and edit others, I film and do production work on set, and just started to produce my own stories, I act on camera and I'm on stage at second city :) plus as many in the industry I have too many background extra gigs, lol.
Lets chat Lynn!
