I need a clean setup routine written to perform the following tasks. I prefer to use an existing install script such as inno if possible.
-Same script must work on 98se, XP, NT, Vista, and preferably Linux
-Safely copy and register a list of .dll, .ocx, .tlb, etc. Must handle those pesky install problems that MS package and deployment doesn't (which is the reason I need this outsourced)
-Set 2 registry settings for drive letter mapped for server (should be the same as where [url removed, login to view] was run from) and the folder that holds the customer data (found in a [url removed, login to view] in same folder [url removed, login to view] is run from). These settings must be confirmed by looking for a specific file AND user confirmation. If not found, user must input valid entry.
-Install a desktop and/or start menu shortcut to ?:[url removed, login to view] on the client server where ?: is the drive letter set above.
-If possible, ask user for a username and set as an environment variable that vb6 can read with Environ$
-Launch ?:[url removed, login to view]
-Must include an uninstall - but this will not remove anything on the server . . . just the shortcuts, registry settings, and necessary dll's
It's impossible to create Windows-based installer together with Linux-based. That's the only problem. But, the rest of features you described here are do-able by using Inno Setup.
