I need a script to run on my local machine, Windows XP, to manage data files. The file types are ASCII & MS Excel CSV. The script will look in 9 directories with either ASCII or CSV files and then do the following:
1. create a duplicate file type and name
2. copy the top 1 to 5 rows of data from the existing file into the new file
3. save the new file to a common directory, overwrite existing file
The number of rows to copy will be an adjustable variable set prior to running the script.
The purpose of this script is to reduce file size so that uploading to a web server is more efficient. The data cannot be combined in a single CSV or ASCII file so multiple files will be created with 1 to 5 rows of data.
