I am a CPRW, who also specializes in technical and business writing.
I am wondering how many of you are as frustrated as I am, when you search for work, only to find the job pays $20! This kind of situation is happening more frequently and apparently in many areas.
I've done everything short of jumping through the monitor to shake some sense into these people. I've even gone so far as to survey a random sampling of resume writing firms/individuals, just to see what their fees are. Then I figured out the average fees, per type of resume, i.e., entry level, executive, etc.
Not much shocks me anymore, but this certainly did! I learned that people are getting paid an average of between $233 through $643 just for a resume. If they want cover letters it costs more.
Now, I'm not suggesting I deserve $600 for a resume ( nor does anyone) however, no body that is a CPRW, and has a degree in professional writing, should have to settle for $20 or $30.
Then I had a thought. There must be others who are in the same situation, just as frustrated and don't know what to do either. So, I wondered if anyone would be interested in teaming up and starting our own thing.
I've added web and graphic designers, because this is not my area of expertise, and we'd need people for this.
I'm thinking we can offer resumes and have articles related to job searching, career consulting, etc. I'm doing this for a firm in Singapore now!
I hope with a few decent brains we come up with something wonderful. No guarantees, but it's worth exploring.
Here's what I require:
+Can write articles on the subject.
+Experienced in a variety of resumes
+Anyone who knows how to write CVs is more than welcome
+Ability to either Skype or IM
+Willing to bust your butt to make this a success.
+Willing to share ideas, as well as ask questions
+Web designers and web maintenance
+Any other area of design would be nice
Other qualities I am looking for are people who don't make promises they can't keep, are passionate for writing, have common sense and good judgment. You need to be resourceful, dedicated to this cause and have a history of working with clients of all diversities.
Mostly, I want someone who is able to get along with other people, and can participate in projects together online. Anyone who thinks their you-know-what don't smell, or believes they know more than the rest of us, don't bother. I am looking for real, down-to-earth people, who haven't forgotten the meaning of quality work or good customer service. You MUST be honest, genuine, and have still have some integrity left. Don't bother if you're not serious.
I simply want decent, hard-working, honorable people, who act like adults and won't get all ridiculous and offended if someone may offer some criticism. Also, leave your baggage in another room!
I'd like you to tell me about yourself, background, work history, education, etc. and what you can bring to the party. Tell me what makes you so special, (because writers are a dime a dozen) and what you envision. Feel free to tell me anything else, as I am interested in you as a person, and would like to know if you have kids, are married, etc.
I would prefer people in the US, only because it's easier with the time differences.
This will obviously be an ongoing project, so bid for the greatest amount of time available, I have no idea what kind of budget there will be as it depends on what we earn, so for the sake of having to put something, use the medium project fees. Please don't throw in milestones, because I can't pay for something that hasn't happened.
Anyone who writes a sentence and says refer to resume, refer somewhere else! I want to get a sense of who you are and your writing ability, so please don't have errors or typos all over.
