Webmaster/Webmistress Wanted for Research & Publishing Network

Cancelled

We are a not-for-profit academic conference and publishing network, organising over 70 conferences a year across the United Kingdom, Central and Eastern Europe and from 2014, North America. To date we have published over 50 titles in a variety of eBook, hard copy and journal formats.

Our main website is built across four Wordpress installations and has over 4500 pages of content. Our book site is built around a Joomla installation and carries a variety of content, including ebook downloads, hard copy books and journals. The bookstore site is SSL enabled with a gateway to Paypal and HSBC credit card payment systems. The main site is about to become SSL enabled, with a bespoke booking system integrated in the next two months. Both sites are run on a Linux server with Parallels Plesk management.

We are looking for a webmaster/mistress to begin to create and administer both a web philosophy/strategy for our site as well as a consistent design look and feel. The ability to create some measure of integration between the sites is desirable. The creation of a high degree of interaction with users and the introduction of (social) media tools and functions is encouraged. Creating a modern look and feel with easy access to information is a priority. The creation of an innovative navigation system would be a high priority. Links to and integration with Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and other platforms would be considered beneficial to the evolution of the site.

We need someone who is able to work with Wordpress, Joomla and ftp. The ability to customise the platform and any modules would be an advantage. Design and image manipulation skills is a must, along with a good standard of written English for the creation of content where needed. A cursory knowledge of Plesk would be an advantage, but not essential.

The position is available with an immediate start and a probationary period of three months. If the probationary period is successful, it is anticipated the role will continue on a self-employed basis. Initially the role will be up to 8 hours per week, with the strong likelihood of that increasing as our range of projects grows and evolves.

To apply for the position, please provide 2 examples of your work along with a statement of what you feel are the key strengths of the sites concerned. List three elements you believe a successful website should have.

We are not interested in receiving expressions of interest from teams, companies or agency workers.
