SHORT DESCRIPTION : We have a custom captive portal developped on a Wifidog Basis. On Apple devices using ios 6/5 ; captive portal pops up directly in network settings when choosing SSID. If you don't enter any information on portal connectivity is dropped. We need to find a way to keep physical connection up.
FULL PROJECT DESCRIPTION
We are using WifiDog Captive Portal (OpenSource) as a server and OpenWRT Backfire 10.03.1 firmware on a Cisco Linksys WRT160NL router as hotspot.
This portal is used to connect using a laptop and is running well.
On smartphones we have a specific application that run all the authentication process automatically. Android app is working fine since we have all hands on network layer.
On iOS 6: User must select SSID in network settings because of Apple requirements. Then iOS makes the captive portal pops up immediately in network settings. If you don't enter any information on the portal, physical connectivity between device and router is dropped by iOS.
On iOS 5: we have the same behaviour, but only when hotspot has no WPA key.
Aim of the project is to find a way to keep physical connectivity between device and router, in order to let user use smart application to run authentication process. We can make change either on the portal itself or we can also make custom answers to any query made by iOS.
