How to format your eBook in Word
KDP accepts Arabic language content only in Microsoft Word (.DOC or DOCX) formats. For the best results, follow the steps below. You can also download our conversion and quality guidelines in Arabic.
Step 1: Format your title page
Your eBook should include a title page with your book title and author name. You can also add other front matter pages like a copyright and dedication page, but these aren’t required. Make sure the information on your title page exactly matches the book details you entered title setup. Mismatches are one of the most common reasons files are rejected.
Step 2: Indent paragraphs, set line spacing, and page breaks
Go to your first chapter and highlight all your paragraphs.
Go to the Home tab and open the Paragraph dialog box by clicking the small diagonal arrow at the bottom right of the "Paragraph" section.
Under "Indentation," select First line from the "Special" drop-down menu.
In the "By" field, enter 0.2" (5 mm).
Under "Spacing," set "Before" and "After" to 0 pt.
Select Single from the "Line spacing" drop-down menu and click OK.
Click where the chapter text ends and click Page Break.
Repeat these steps for each chapter.
Step 3: Create an active table of contents
An active table of contents is one of the features eBook readers need and expect. Why? Because the table of contents lets them to jump to specific places in the book by clicking on links embedded in the text. eBooks don't have page numbers, and page counts change when the reader adjusts the text size. To create an active table of contents:
Go to your first chapter and highlight the chapter title.
Go to the Home tab, and in the "Styles" section, click Heading 1.
If you want, add additional formatting (e.g., alignment, bold text, or font size).
Repeat these steps for each chapter. Be sure to apply any additional formatting consistently.
Click where you want to insert your table of contents.
Go to the References tab and click Table of Contents.
Select Automatic Table 1.
Click Table of Contents again, but this time select Custom Table of Contents.
Uncheck the Show Page Numbers box, set "Show levels" to 1, and click OK.
When asked if you want to replace the table of contents, click Yes.
Highlight the table of contents title "Contents."
Go to the Insert tab, and in the "Links" section, click Bookmark.
Enter "toc" (without the quotation marks) into the "Bookmark name" field and click Add.
Insert a page break after your table of contents.
Step 4: Preview your eBook
Before you upload your eBook to KDP, check out the tips below, and make any necessary updates to your Word file. These tips include the most common reasons Arabic files are rejected. Also see our Help page for details on our quality guidelines.
We recommend reviewing your eBook in Kindle Previewer, a desktop application that shows you how your eBook will look on tablets, Kindle E-readers, and phones. Previewer can help you find and fix formatting and typographical errors.
