Choose one colonized country along with its related colonizing power (possible examples from among many: The British in India; The French in Indochina; The Belgians in the Congo; The United States in the Philippines).
Analyze the relationship between the colonizer and the colonized. What were the motivations of the colonizer to seize control of this territory? How was the territory obtained? Was there political or military resistance? How did the colonizer govern? Was there pressure on the colonized people to change their culture to more closely resemble the culture of the colonizer (religion, language, dress, music, art, architecture)? Based on evidence, not arbitrary opinion, do you think that the native people were better or worse off for the experience? Include an analysis of how the former colony looks today. Are there any residual effects from the colonial experience?
