Results matter most! That's what I learned in 10 years of graphic design experience. And to get results you need to know your clients and understand their business, and their products. Designing shiny things is nice, that's the reason I got into it and I'm very good at it, but ultimately that's a secondary skill. You don't just need good design, it also needs to be effective, it needs to sell, it needs to entice, it needs to work well with marketing, with social media, with SEO, etc. and you need to work with those people, to form relationships. If you value involvement and products suited to your needs and those of your clients, than you found the right match.
