I am a published author, graduate student, proofreader and copy editor, born in Colorado and now living in Greece. Previously, I was a cum laude student of history and philosophy at Colorado State University, but over the past 18 years, I have periodically worked with diverse groups of writers in academic, scientific, historical, and creative genres. While I am currently earning my master’s degree in history at the University of Edinburgh and continuing with my own writing, I in fact love editing.
My approach is meticulous, collaborative, and thorough: I savor the chance to help writers make their own work the finest it can be. I seek not only to correct small errors of grammar, syntax, and spelling, but to fine-tune structure, rhythm, and vocabulary, as well as consistency and power of content. I like to provide personal contact with writers, ensuring that each understands the reasons behind certain changes and remains in control of the work. I want to preserve the personal voice of every writer, letting individual styles shine in a polished and skillful form. Nonetheless, I am aware that the writer-editor relationship requires some trust, and so prior to employment, I am happy to provide a free demonstration of my proofreading and copy editing; send me a 50-100 word excerpt, and I will edit it with no charge to you!
As for my experience, from 2003-2004 I was a writing tutor and guide at Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA; from 2005-2007 I served as poetry and creative editor with Matter Journal, a Colorado-based literary quarterly. Subsequently I took a respite to write and travel, during which my first book, Logodaedaly, or Sleight-of-Words, was released by nonprofit Wolverine Farm Publishing in 2011 (under my pseudonym, Erzsébet Gilbert) and named Nonfiction Book of the Year by Indiefab/Foreword Review; further information may be found at [login to view URL]. From 2013-2014, I proofread and edited scientific reports for international geologic surveying company Rozgonyi & Associates. In 2017, I worked as copy editor for the history museum of the city of Cremona, Italy, preparing a commemorative publication regarding Renaissance engineer Janello Torriani. Over the years, my short stories have been published and received awards in several literary journals. I have substantial nonprofessional experience in proofreading and honing academic essays for friends and colleagues. A sample of my prizewinning fiction may be found at [login to view URL]. For those who desire samples of my academic writing, I can deliver PDF copies for perusal. I hope to work with you soon!
