Shannon Randall lives and works in Fredericton where he grew up and gets a good deal of his inspiration. After receiving a certificate of Communication Design from the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design, Shannon returned to further expand his creative horizons with the Diploma of Fine Craft in Photography. In the last year Shannon received two arts award scholarships, ArtsNB and the NBCC Foundation awards, as well having work published the winter 2010 and fall 2011 issues of PhotoEd magazine. Graphic elements of bold colour, creative use of lighting and composition are the focus for much of Shannon’s work. He creates surreal painterly like landscapes as well as glowing portrait images. Contrasts between light and dark and symbolism is always a key factor in Shannon’s work where meaning is conveyed to the viewer with the aesthetic use of tone and composition to create an atmospheric mood within a composite image or photo. Doing atmospheric landscapes, classic looking dramatic portraits and digital design are the areas Shannon continues to explore the fields of portrait, documentary, and fine art photograph as well as design professionally with the government of Canada and independently as a freelancer.
