Silicon-based surface gratings for efficient fiber-chip and free-space beam coupling

SPIE: Integrated Optics: Design, Devices, Systems and Applications VII
Silicon photonics has established itself as a key integration platform, leveraging high-quality materials and large-scale manufacturing using mastered toolsets of complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) foundries. Chip-scale photonics offer unique promises for dense integration of versatile optical functions through compact and high-performance building blocks. Integrated photonics is now competing technology for many applications, spanning from telecom/datacom and interconnects up to ...

Design and Simulation of an All-Optical Plasmonic Fano Switch

IEEE: 2020 28th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering (ICEE)
The optical switch is a crucial component in optical communications that plays an important role in transmitting the optical signal within a photonic circuit. In this paper, an all-optical plasmonic switch composed of five nanodisks made from gold, planted inside SiO z substrate, based on Fano resonance, has been proposed. The simulation results disclose that the structure can work as an infrared optical switch by adjusting the pump light at 825 nm wavelength. The occurrence of the second Fano …

Off-chip surface grating couplers and nano-antennas for optical communications and phased arrays

IEEE: 2023 Photonics North (PN)
Coupling of light between integrated photonic chips and optical fibers or free-space ports requires high efficiency optical elements to accommodate demands for wide range of applications. Here, we present recent advances in the development of low-loss silicon nitride grating couplers and compact silicon-on-insulator nano-antennas with high-directionality.

Low-Power Fano Resonance-Based MIM Plasmonic Switch Using Kerr-Type Nonlinear Material

IEEE: 2021 29th Iranian Conference on Electrical Engineering (ICEE)
In this paper, an all-optical plasmonic switch based on the metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguide configuration is proposed. The structure uses a Kerr-type nonlinear material (Au:SiO2 Composite) and Fano resonance to achieve all-optical switching. It is shown that adding two stubs to a MIM waveguide creates a Fano resonance which can be used for switching applications. A pump signal is used for this purpose. The two dimensional finite difference time domain (FDTD) method is employed to …

A modified architecture of a perovskite solar cell with an enhanced optical absorption in the ...

IOP Publishing: Nanotechnology
The incomplete absorption of light in the perovskite solar cells (PSCs) due to the escape of photons and the waste of their energy in the visible spectrum hinders the efficiency of this type of solar cell. Utilizing light-trapping nanostructures and stimulating the device's plasmonic is an efficient way to increase absorption and reduce the energy losses. In this paper, a novel configuration of a nanostructured PSC with a plasmonic enhancement has been introduced to confine light in the ...

Design of a highly sensitive tunable plasmonic refractive index sensor based on a ring-shaped ...

Springer US: Optical and Quantum Electronics
In this paper, a high-sensitivity and tunable plasmonic refractive index sensor based on a nano ring- shaped resonator is proposed. This structure can be used as a multi-wavelength refractive index sensor with a maximum high-sensitivity of 2160 nm/RIU and maximum FoM of 55.2 . The sensitivity is nearly 2 times higher than that of the previously reported basic structure based on a nanodisk shaped resonator. https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11082-021-03431-8

All-optical plasmonic switches based on Fano resonance in an X-shaped resonator coupled to ...

Elsevier: Optik
In this paper, all-optical plasmonic switches based on metal-insulator-metal (MIM) waveguide configurations are proposed. In these structures, a Kerr-type nonlinear material and Fano resonance are used to achieve all-optical switching. Firstly, it is shown that adding two stubs to a MIM waveguide creates a Fano resonance which can be used for switching applications (the first switch). https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S003040262101055X
