DO WE NEED ANALGESIA COVER DURING ELECTRODIAGNOSTIC TESTING?

This study had 95 participants who had a medianactual post NCS pain score of 6 and an actual post EMG pain score of 8 (p<0.001). There were statistically significant differences in post-EMG scores between body mass index groups, type of needle and whether end plate noise was detected (all p-values <0.05). Higher post needle-EMG pain scores were predictive of the need for pain killers during the procedure as assessed by logistic regression model (p=0.025).

Utilization and outcomes with low dose t-PA for ischaemic stroke at Aga Khan University Hospital

Overall utilisation of t-PA remained at 1.7%. It was seen in 3 (3.8%) patients versus 468 (7.3%) patients at the higher dose. Functional independence was seen in 40 (50.6%) patients at three months compared to 3362 (54.8%) patients at the higher dose. Low-dose t-PA for ischaemic stroke patients was found to be safe and efficacious, and yielded comparable results with those obtained at a higher dose.

Evaluation of quality of warfarin therapy at a tertiary care hospital in Pakistan

The retrospective study at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, comprised of patients on warfarin from Jan 2013 to Apr 2015. Association of time in therapeutic range with the composite outcome, bleeding and thromboembolic events was assessed. There were 92 patients whose median time in therapeutic range was 34.9%. Overall, 71(77.2%) patients had time in therapeutic range below 60% which had statistically significant correlation with the composite outcome (p<0.05).

Factors Leading to Acute Pancreatitis in Tertiary Care Hospitals in Pakistan – A Multicenter Study

The higher rate of idiopathic pancreatitis in our study, along with higher mortality in this subgroup, could be partially explained due to lack of advanced diagnostics such as MRCP and EUS. We recommend more workshops to train clinicians and basic science researcher in data analysis techniques using SPSS to interpret their data results in their research projects .The recommendations and suggestions by workshop participants included increasing the length of the workshop. However, 86 percent of participants were satisfied with the format and teaching methodology imparted in the workshops.
