About Me
As evidenced in my portfolio, I have demonstrated ability to - Code from the ground up in standards compliant code whether HTML/xHTML, PHP, JavaScript or Python. - Effectively optimize pages for SEO. (A good example of this is the K C Natural Homes site in my portfolio which went from a (Google) Page Rank of less than 40 for the search term "Natural Homes Sooke" to 2nd.) - Content writing including sourcing images and information. - Discuss with clients their expectations and requirements and bring deliverables on time, within budget, both meeting their requirements and using my experience to optimize them to best meet their intended purposes. - Design custom forms and CMS back and front ends. My development skill-set includes demonstrable expertise in PHP, (X)HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL and Python with a good working knowledge of JavaScript (and I am currently gaining experience with AJAX). I have experience coding for the different requirements of the major browser varieties. I generally use GIT as my preferred code versioning solution but I also have significant experience with SVN and have used Mercurial as well. My graphical manipulation and design skills include a high level of experience with Adobe Photoshop (over 10 years), the PHP GD Image Library, and the effective use of CSS for maximum impact and minimum bandwidth and performance hit for websites. I also possess strong communication, prioritization and time management skills and am comfortable making recommendations and suggestions based on my experience and knowledge even in cases that those may go against the clients' initial vision so that they may make decisions with full information. I also have significant expertise with Microsoft Office Excel, Microsoft Office Word, and csv formatted data. Other applications that I have experience with include Google Drive, DropBox, PHPBB forums (administration), Archicad, Blender and Turbotax/Quicktax as well as many command line only applications. Learning how to use applications whether designed for Windows, Linux or browser based is always a snap for me due to my early immersion, appreciation and enjoyment of technology.
