I'm an ex-pat Brit spending about 80% of my time in Ankara, Turkey. I graduated in London in Engineering Product Design (Industrial Design by another name) but have spent most of my time since doing Graphic Design. I do bits and bobs for some small firms over here, but I've loads of time left over for some more freelance jobs. I prefer to work in clean lines, flat colour, bold typefaces. I'm not a big fan of the whole "gradients in everything, web 2.0, ribbons and badges" stuff. I love what I do, if I can make a living then that's a bonus.

“As an employer I can only say one thing: USE TIM! It's far and few between that you will ever find a designer with his skill level on freelancer and his communication/english skills are prefect given it's his native tongue. This means he UNDERSTANDS the brief the first time and needs little guidance. Don't bother using anyone else on this site. He is a very good designer so he actually ADDS VALUE to the process, as opposed to just taking orders from you as a client. It's been a god send to find him and I have many more jobs planned that I hope to work with him on.”

Experience

Design Engineer

Mar 2014

Architectural design and plans for home cinema installations, corporate conference halls and demonstration rooms. I am also involved in designing the audio-visual systems and the wiring arrangements, as well as some programming of the home automation systems involved (generally Control4).

Graphic Designer (fl)

Dec 2011 - Mar 2014 (2 years)

An energetic studio in Ankara, Turkey. Mostly fresh out of university, a group of guys and gals trying to buck the trend of all the design work going to Istanbul. Some great knowledge of PHP/JS/HTML5 which unfortunately is too complex to rub off on me. I work on a freelance basis, helping with the design aspects of website projects, branding, restaurant menus, company business cards... whatever comes along.

Graphic Designer (fl)

Jul 2011

Freelance graphic design work for this 'incubation centre' which helps small startup companies get up and running. I do design work for websites, logos, business cards, brochures and the like.

CAD monkey

Jul 2010 - Sep 2010 (2 months)

A fun time as an intern at a fun company. These guys designed the interiors of super-yachts for the super-rich. Real lavish stuff, with price tags to match. It was interesting to see the amazing care and attention to detail taken over the projects, and a great experience.

Education

BSc Engineering Product Design (Hons)

2008 - 2012 (4 years)

BEng Electrical & Electronic Engineering

2000 - 2004 (4 years)

MFA Interior Architecture and Environmental Design

2013 - 2015 (2 years)

Certifications

BSc Engineering Product Design (Hons) (2011)

2:1 (second class honours, upper division). I learnt a lot, a large proportion of it just through having fun designing things with my friends using the university's amazing tool-shops and machines. Went to a few lectures, too.

TEFL (2012)

English teaching qualification. I have given supplementary lessons at a local language school in Ankara.

Publications

Final dissertation

Not sure I can really call this a 'publication', but it's as close as I have got. It's probably the longest document I ever prepared so it's a decent showcase of typing, page-setting / presentation, document organisation and proofreading (oh how many times I read it...) abilities. It can be found in PDF format here:
