An R&D project to develop a miniaturised laser driver and data acquisition (DAQ) system suitable for laser diode spectroscopy. This particular application was to detect presence of oxygen in hypersonic flight research.

The system uses a wave-length stabilised laser diode which is modulated with various waveforms to scan required wavelength ranges. The system also controlled the laser bias and silicon temperature via thermoelectric cooler.

The DAQ featured 16-bit resolution and sampling up to 25Mbps and the data was collected and stored internally on a microSD card for later analysis.

Optical Fiber Sensor

An ongoing research project utilising acoustic (microphone) and seismic (geophone) sensors to collect information from the deployed location. The system carries out internal processing to determine the nature of the event and this information is transferred via RF to a central location for location and tracking to take place.

The system is primarily designed to detect, classify, locate, and track a number of events such as explosions, gunfire, low-level aircraft, vehicles, and personnel. It also has applications in earthquake monitoring, mining and exploration, and environmental monitoring.

Acoustic-Seismic Monitoring System

A security system I developed based on my patented fibre-optic sensor technology. The system consists of sensor mats which are networked together to form a secure zone. Any activity on the mats is recorded as an event and an alarm is generated depending on the conditions. The system is GSM/GPRS enabled and features a GPS for location information in the field. It can also connect to existing security infrastructure if needed.

Multiple systems can be deployed in the field and all information is passed to central location running customised software incorporating Google Earth. All systems can be monitored in real-time with the ability to configure and query at any time.
