Global Affairs Writer, Researcher, and Consultant

While I am new to Freelancer, I have over 15 years of professional and academic experience in public and international affairs, foreign policy, and international development. I received my Ph.D. in Public Policy at the George Mason University Schar School of Policy and Government. My research examined international development policy and foreign aid effectiveness in vulnerable, rural, fragile, and conflict-affected areas of Pakistan and Afghanistan, from the lens of social capital and network theory. Examining multiple cases of endogenous and exogenous development program models in the two countries, through the social capital-aid effectiveness-fragility nexus, I conducted fieldwork, content analysis, social network analysis, and qualitative comparisons and multiple case study approach to determine the conditions in which programs lead to sustainable, localized and locally owned processes and outcomes. My research provides crucial insights on how relational, environmental, and structural conditions can help or hinder aid-delivery processes in conflict-affected or fragile spaces. My general research specializations include international development, diplomacy, foreign policy, sustainable development social capital, human rights, failed/fragile states; post-conflict reconstruction, community-driven development and gender studies. I have versatile experience in network evaluation for development impact assessment; public policy and international affairs policy analysis; project management and new business development; qualitative and quantitative research methods; analytical writing; grant writing; non-profit work; community event organizing and coordination. My specialization in qualitative research methods involves: qualitative fieldwork, archival document analysis, content analysis, qualitative coding, and social network analysis. I have professional experience with data/statistical software includes R, NVivo, Gephi, UCINET, STATA, GIS. My regional interests/specializations include the Middle East and South Asia, with language proficiency at varying levels in Urdu, Hindi, Arabic, and Spanish. Integrating content analysis, social network analysis (SNA), and qualitative comparisons (archival research and over 100 field interviews), this article examines the efficacy of Community Driven Development (CDD) in Pakistan and Afghanistan. The SNA of two World Bank programs illuminates network properties of power and centralization. This mixed-method study reveals structural conditions that permit and/or constrain sustainable, locally-owned processes in fragile spaces.
