I built this chat-based Chrome Extension as a fun side-project. Stack Overflow is the largest community Q&A site for developers, and this extension allows SO users to chat about the questions and answers via a slide-out panel in their Chrome browser. From a technical perspective, this extension features fully real-time chat messaging using Firebase as the backend. The front end is built entirely in AngularJS, and I did the design (HTML/CSS) from scratch (no templates).

My core competency is application development, complex information architecture and data visualization. However, I have a keen eye for design and have developed a series of compelling and successful marketing materials. I share them here only to demonstrate my design capabilities and ability to break the mold of design-inept developer; I do not currently do design work on a contract basis. To create these and other materials, I used Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and After Effects for animation.

PaceThis is a running analytics platform that enables serious athletes to track, analyze, and plan their workouts in preparation for events (e.g. marathons). Runners with Garmin GPS watches can import their workouts directly into the site, and are instantly provided with a map of their run as well as charts/graphs analyzing their performance. Technical features of interest include an integration with a customized version of the Garmin Javascript API, mapping 1000s of sequential geo-data locations with Google Maps, data visualization with Highcharts, a customized responsive calendar to view workouts over time, and summary charts for weekly performance overviews. The site is built in Rails 4 with Twitter Bootstrap v3 as the primary templating tool and PostgreSQL for data storage. Image used with permission.

I implemented a Rails application that receives JSON data from a mobile application, converts the information into a nicely designed PDF report, and emails the report to the end customer. The web stack is Rails 4, and the PDF generation was accomplished with Prawn. Note: I was not responsible for the design of the template.
