220V AC to 12V DC Supply
In this problem, we have successfully designed a voltage regulator for 12 volts from ordinary AC supply. Firstly, we designed a Step down transformer to step down the AC signal. Then to convert the AC to DC we formed a rectifier circuit using bridge of diodes. It gave output with the ripple. To reduce the ripples and to get a smooth DC we formulated a filter circuit using a capacitor and reduced the ripples. The almost smooth DC is we get from filter circuit is then regulated by the Zener to get output of 12 volts at load. For safety, the line and load regulation are also calculated for the designed Zener diode. The current through the Zener is regulated by the limiting resistance R.
