Tutorial ABAQUS 2: indentation of thin coating
This is an example of finite element simulation for coating indentation. I made this tutorial website to help people who are not familiar with finite element software like ABAQUS or NASTRAN. I take an example of coating indentation using Vickers to simulate the how the indentor penetrate where the crack will be initiated on the coating. However, this feature is very powerful for any engineers who are working in product development or in predicting materials behavior under certain circumstances. Not only to simulate crack initiation but it is also useful to quantify the value of stress along the coating interface. Today, we are going to simulate how a Vicker indentation tool create damage to thin film of hard coating on soft substrate.
