i have an existing implementation of JWPlayer for flash video on my webpage. i want it upgraded with the newest version of JWPlayer which includes HTML5.
basically the new version of the player automatically switches between the html5 player and the existing flash one by itself depending on what browser is loading it. to use this functionality my existing page needs to be updated to use the new player javascript JWembedd provided by JWPlayer. the old player used a flash embedd. the new player requires a javascript embedd (this allows it to pick the flash or html5 version when the page is loaded)
it should be pretty simple, especially for anyone already familiar with jwplayer.
the hard part, if it there is one, is that my existing player has a couple of add ons that need to be maintained. 1 it uses a player skin provided by jwplayer, 2 it uses a playlist file (also as jwplayer supports), 3 the playlist plays files from youtube (also a simple function of the player already) and 4. when the flash version of the player finishes playing there is a javascript listening event that detectes the player is done and redirects to a URL.
all of these "customizations" are simple add-ons and functions provided by JWPlayer, so there is no weird code, but the new version of the player will need to also maintain these adons.
i am under the impression that the HTML5 version of the player does not support playlists and so i do not expect anything but the most basic functionality from it...
basically if the web page is loaded by and iphone or ipad the HTML5 version of the player should load with whatever basic functionality is supported and if the web page is loaded by anything that supports flash (everything else) then the flash version (basically equal with what i currently have) will load.
