Magento Custom Catalogsearch

I have created a custom catalogsearch and the layered navigation is showing correctly.
But when i add another searchcriteria the result remains unchanged.
It is basically displaying the results based on the criteria.
You can also use the default layered navigation with the default catalogsearch if that is easier.
