This should be fairly easy to do for someone who has worked with Google Maps and classified ads before. Most of the following is standard technology.I want a wordpress classifieds theme that is compatible with plugins etc.
The theme will be a modern version of [url removed, login to view], which is extremely old and ugly.
Modelling from 'Mappress pro' theme or similar, create a ONE PAGE website theme for wordpress, which I will sell to wordpress users, and use for my own websites. Your coding must be legal for me to resell, but don't waste time reinventing obvious things that are available to everyone.
If possible, the icons for each advertiser should work with Google Earth as well as standard google maps. All software must be future ready for upgrades and compatible with wordpress plugins.
The one page layout will consist of
1. A DISPLAY MODE and SORT BY switch.
2. a foldaway filter sidebar on the left,
3. a foldaway header that will animate down to show the Place an Ad Form/About info/Ad details,
4. and the main results window, which will show an interactive world map with icons/image rectangles with basic descriptions/a table of classifieds with it's own SORT BY functionality in column headers.
The admin controls in Wordpress must be completely intuitive and will need to be discussed.
The advertisers will pay with paypal, so that the website will run itself.
SOME specifications for the theme:
0.a. In the top left corner of the theme will be a DISPLAY MODE select switch. The 3 options I want so far are: IMAGES, TABLE and MAP. There will also be a SORT BY switch. Options for sorting will be determined by 'Place an Ad' fields. Eg Price, Date Posted, Date Ending, Name, Proximity (km/miles), etc.
0.b. The default landing display mode is MAP MODE, and will show a radius of 200km around the user's IP address (or another radius set by admin). The icons that will show up are local ads. The icons are specific to categories and subcategories, selected by the admin.
0.c. The default results are ALL categories and subcategories, but after the user selects filter options, these choices will be remembered as cookies, so their preferred categories/subcategories will be the results they see next visit.
0.d. The skin backgrounds for the header (which scrolls down when needed) and the sidebar will be selected or uploaded by the admin. The main area is always a map, or rectangle images over the top of the map.
0.e. The rectangle images will fit whatever the width of the browser is set to. The size of the rectangles themselves can be adjusted at any time by the user.
0.f. Zooming on the map will alter the number of ad results as they come into view. Zooming into a 100m radius might only show one ad, while zooming out completely so that the whole world can be seen will show all results.
SIDEBAR
1.a. All the ad results are stored in the database, and on the first visit to the website, all categories/subcategories will be shown (unless the admin alters the settings). The sidebar is used to FILTER the results.
1.b. The sidebar components are 'Your address' text box, 'Proximity (km/miles)' text box 'Keywords' text box, 'Date Range' slider, categories with checkboxes, which are also dropboxes for subcategories with their own checkboxes.
1.c. 'Your address' can be anything that Google maps understands. So you can type a business name or a country or a street or a full address and it will make that the central location, and retype that address correctly into the address box so the user can confirm that the software got it right. Filling in this address will be unnecessary if the GEOIP is correct about the user's location, but is essential for people looking up information about other places. The map will centre around this location. Zooming the map in map mode will alter the Proximity info in the sidebar in realtime.
