Starting Point
We are currently using the SensorTag CC2541 from Texas Instruments as our initial prototype ([url removed, login to view]). We have found that this unit has some drawbacks, including size, unnecessary components, insufficient range from the accelerometer, minimal memory, and the lack of rechargeable battery. However, we believe that the SensorTag can be a useful starting point if the temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure sensors are removed, the accelerometer is upgraded, and the power and memory are changed.

Resolution: =12 bit (14 bit will be ideal)
Output Data Rate: =1000 Hz
Reference component: KXCJ9 from Kionix
Gyroscope

Range: +/- 2000 deg/sec
Resolution: =16 bit
Output Data RAte: =1000 Hz
Other notes: can be synchronized with accelerometer, low current consumption
Magnetometer (Currently not used, but I write it here for future references)

Output Data Rate: at least 100Hz, ideally 1000Hz
Power Source
Rechargable battery
Circuit to recharge battery (we are comfortable with mini-USB, micro-USB, or really any other way to recharge from an external power source)
Memory
8+ MB Memory Flash
Physical Size and Requirements
The PCB should be less than (or equal to) 1 ½ inches in diameter.
We also would like assistance is designing the external shell/casing for the hardware (likely plastic or silicone rubber), and we can increase our budget on this part.
