Android Jabber XMPP Client

Hello I would like to build a XMPP jabber client it opnly needs to be able to connect to my own server (not msn gtalk or whatever) it doesn't need to look fancy but need al the buttons like on for instance whats app. No file sharing etc is needed just basic text with profile pictures. Who is able to provide this?

Wat I would like to know from you is: 1. How long / indept knowledge do you have with the XMPP protocol and jabber/ ANdroid/ MYSQL/OPENLDAP? 2. Show me an Android application you build just to show me your skills.
