Here's that unfinished idea that needs your brilliance. I want to boot a pc as fast as possible into a internet browser.

Need that with a dual boot, one for the normal operating system and the other for the ultrafast starting browser (=the project). What I want you to do is to find a way to get a pc started as fast as possible to get on the web. The idea is that someone who wants to know something on the spur of the moment, doesn't like to wait 1-2 minutes before the pc starts. It has to go a lot faster. I know, you can put your pc on hibernate or sleep, but this project is for students in a classroom where both options are disabled. They just need to go online as fast as possible.

Your mission is, if you accept it, to give me reliable software that boots up any Windows XP/ Vista pc in 'internet mode' with no conflicts with the original OS. Please inspire me with your thoughts how to do this and - don't forget - give me an estimate how many seconds your solution will take to get a mainstream pc started in 'internet mode'. Ofcourse I know you can't boot Windows faster then Windows, so I'll guess it has to be some sort of embedded system or stripped Linux-thing, possible to be booted from a USB-stick? You're free in the form of the solution.. Puppy Linux should be a good start as is Knoppix.

The user must not see Linux starting (if you choose for that) and the OS has to start with a browser (no other programs necessary). Happy stripping!
