GENERAL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Category 1:
Business Improvement
The Business Improvement stream is comprised of a range of services to support the organization's ongoing culture of service improvement through service and process transformation. Business improvement enables departments to examine operational processes to find more efficient and effective ways of providing service. The scope of business improvement at the City includes corporate teams involved in targeted business improvement initiatives, departmental teams responding to a change in service delivery as well as special project teams working on a range of initiatives across the City"s business lines. Program/project requirements will range from smaller, distinct components of work to larger, all encompassing projects to support the City"s business improvement efforts. Relevant projects and/or undertakings are defined as projects where the work could involve either:
Business Improvement: • Business Process review and opportunity assessments
• Service delivery assessment and Service Design
• Accessible Service Design
• Social Return on Investment Calculations
• Business Process Mapping and re-engineering
• Process Documentation/technical writing
Category 2:
Business Model Development
The Business Model Development stream is comprised of a range of services to support the organization"s requirements to develop new or improved business models when warranted due to organizational changes, new legislation or new service areas. Business model development assists departments in creating new lines of business or updating existing operational areas. The scope of business model development at the City may be broad reaching at the corporate level, or may be targeted to individual service units or divisions. Program/project requirements will range from smaller, distinct components of work to larger, all encompassing projects to support the City"s requirements for effective business lines. Relevant projects and/or undertakings are defined as projects where the work could involve either:
Business Model Development • Current Practice and Program Evaluation
• Research Analysis
• Service standard development
• Business Model Development
• Shared Services Model Development and Implementation
Category 3:
Strategic Planning
The Strategic Planning stream is comprised of a range of services to support the organization"s standardized approach to strategic planning within the Council approved Corporate Planning Framework. The Corporate Planning Framework links the City"s main goals to the operational programs and services delivered to residents. The system uses tools such as the strategy map and balanced scorecard to link planning with performance measurement and to the financial resources required to deliver programs and services. The scope of strategic planning at the City includes a process to identify and prioritize what the City intends to achieve during the Term of Council, a governance structure with enhanced oversight responsibilities for Council, tools to track the City"s performance in achieving priorities, and a forum to conduct regular strategy review.
