    This project is to make a small USB MODULE, which can operate on the GMRS / FRS / MURS frequencies and spectrum. This module should be powered by the USB port. It should have the property support for the channels and frequency&quot;s. It should be able to transmit some form of data on those frequency&quot;s and communication in various modes such as duplex and etc. The module it self has no buttons. It only has a MICRO USB connector for the PC. The PC software will allow talking, sending data through the module. It will allow changing the power output of the module, channels, frequency as needed. Sending data is to other module or device.     The project is to write and test a program for an Arduino connected to 2 Honeywell HMC5883L 3 axis magnetometer ICs via the I2C bus. The magnetometers to be placed 1.5m apart and read by the microprocessor at a user selected interval (initially 5 minutes). The program to include a digital IO on/off switch function with a user selected switch-on delay, with the system lighting a LED during this delay period and taking initial readings from the magnetometers at the end of this time. Commercially available breakout boards may be used to test the system. The system (microprocessor and magnetometers) to &quot;sleep&quot; between readings to conserve power, to have user selectable magnetometer gain and to constantly flash the same LED if a user selected change in valve is detected between the magnetometer readings when the next set of readings are taken (subject to a further reading to confirm that the change is permanent). These changes to be either in the previously calculated headings or the z axis only (user selected option). A further user selectable option to be to detect a change to both magnetometers or to alarm only if the readings from one magnetometer changes. The system is to be used to detect small magnetic changes in an area and, if the project is successful, a further project will be considered to expand the system to include further magnetometers.

    The aim of this project was to develop an AM/FM Digital Radio Receiver using FieldProgrammable Gate Array (FPGA) as the hardware platform. Unlike traditional analog receivers,which are built from analog components, digital receivers convert analog signal into digitalrepresentation, and employ digital signal processing techniques to process the digital data forextracting the desired information. The extracted digital information (a radio channel in thiscase) is then converted back to analog format for listening purposes.In developing the system, we aimed to investigate different techniques for designing digital radioreceivers, from which suitable techniques would be chosen for implementing the AM/FM radioreceiver. Several design models for implementing the receiver in FPGA would be developed andsimulated, giving insight analysis into their performance as well as their efficiency in term ofhardware usage. Finally, these models would be translated into software (Hardware DescriptionLanguage) used for synthesizing the system into a FPGA platform. The ultimate goal of thisproject will be having a fully working AM/FM Digital Receiver System residing in a FPGAboard allowing users to tune in and listen to any of the available AM or FM channels.

The box should have three buttons and a few leds and a wifi connection.The number of times each button was pushed is being counted and accumulated and once an hour all this information is being sent to a centralized server in the internet (the API for the server is ready).     The FPGA project is to porting a WLAN’s PHY cores into a Xilinx FPGA development board (E.g Spartan 3A). Use of the public domain WLAN’s PHY cores from Rice University’s WARP project (, the cores (Matlab Simulink’s mdl files) porting into a Xilinx FPGA development board (E.g. Xilinx’s Spartan3A-DSP board). Details are followings;•Break the WARP’s Simulink’s mdl files into transmitter (Tx) and receiver (Rx) parts (currently, the WARP mdl files are combined) because the core logics are too big for the Spartan3A chip, and port the each part into a Xilinx’s Spartan3A-DSP board.•Perform a slight modification and adding for the WARP mdl files to fit the board and demonstration (will be discussed later).•The Xilinx’s Spartan3A-DSP board is combined with a P160 Analog-to-Digital daughter card (ADC/DAC) by Avnet. The WARP Simulink mdl and P160 ADC Simulink mdl files are need to integrate together for TX and RX.•A simple Matlab GUI will design for configure and run the board.Qualifications for this project;•Must familiar with Xilinx FPGA design tools including System Generator, and required experience for porting/debug on various Xilinx development boards.•Must familiar with Matlab and Simulink•Must familiar with WLAN technology (OFDM modulation/demodulation), DSP•Experience on DSO, Spectrum analyzer, ADC/DAC board, hands-on digital signal processing, and data analysis.If you are interested to submit this project, we encourage to download the WARP project and get familiarize.
