Arabic <> English Translator, Media Producer and Cairo-based Journalist

My journey as a journalist began over a decade ago. I had the privilege of working with Michael Buchanan, Helena Merriman, Tim Willcox, Richard Bilton, Tim Whewell, Ben Gilbert, James Naughtie, Andrew Hosken, Christiane Amanpour, Wolf Blitzer and Thomas Friedman. As a linguist, I provide elegant and accurate translation for languages and events. The quality of my work transcends the written word as I translate simultaneously. Thanks to my mediagenic voice, I am often hired to do voice-over for news, documentaries and books. As an Egyptian who grew up, traveled and worked across the Middle East, I have deep knowledge and understanding of life, politics, culture, society and dialects in the region. Constant travel expands my valuable network of well-placed contacts in all walks of life -- a great resource for investigating any story. I am acutely aware that this work requires a great deal of flexibility and energy, those are the two sides of the coin of creativity. My workdays are long and I start early. Early to rise gives a man a plan and a command of his land. I am well versed in digital technology, and even assembled a series of tutorial lectures on the subject. I believe in my own saying: go digital, you will go far. That is why, early on I have learned to teach my colleagues to log into Facebook and blog, and tweet and use PowerPoint to empower their point. One can never underestimate the power of social media and micro-blogging to instantly inform, report and complement traditional platforms. I stand today on a solid linguistic bedrock. I have taught classical Arabic and English to native speakers of both languages. My expertise in Arabic could be described as nothing short of masterful and wonderful. My uncanny command of the Arabic language has led scholars to invite me to introduce renowned figures such as NASA scientist Farouk El-Baz. Furthermore, I have translated Egypt's 'Official Portal for Luxor' into Arabic. My BBC colleagues admire my splendid command of both English and Arabic. In a nutshell, my passion for news and translation, English and Arabic, as well as the ability to produce a consummate story, make me the perfect choice for your assignments.

COPPER POT PICTURES hired Ahmed Seddik to be our field producer when we traveled to Egypt in June 2012 to film WE MUST GO, our documentary about the Egyptian Football team. Though we had tried to sort out various rights and permissions prior to traveling to Egypt, it wasn’t until Ahmed came on board that we started to see results. From permissions with the various football associations to permits from the Egyptian government to our daily transportation, Ahmed arranged everything. It was unbelievable. He is

Jan 2012 - Dec 2013 (1 year, 11 months)
Ahmed Seddik worked with me as a discussant on the translation of Ahmad Faris al-Shidyaq’s monumental mid-nineteenth-century work al-Saq‘ala l-saq (Leg over Leg) during 2012 and 2013, a work widely considered among the most linguistically challenging of Arabic texts in view of its use of little-known words, word-play and puns, and complex grammar. I reviewed and discussed in depth with Ahmed most of the cruxes of the text and benefitted enormously from his in-put. His knowledge of Arabic grammar, verse, and
