Contest Brief

Your task is to make us a beer label for “Night Walker Pale Ale”

We are a nano brewery called “Mouse Proof Brewery” and we have a number of core beers referred to as “Motley Brews” and a range of experimental beers called “Bootlegger Brews”.

We have a basic logo that is our founding logo. Incorporating this in the design is a key element. It’s not needed as the focal point as the label should be more about eye catching art. After all, it’s artisan beer - it needs an artisan label.

We are all PhD qualified soil scientists. This is why our core range is called Motley Brews. There are a few puns in there “core” as in the soil cores we extract from the ground use for soil assessment. And “motley” which refers to “mottling” where stark orangey splotches appears in the soil due to saturating and drying - much like our punters drinking our beers - from the water table below rising and falling. The obvious pun is on Motley Crue, which we just though was a nice little bonus.

Each of our beers is named after a friend in some way. This one is called “Night Walker Pal Ale” and is so called due to a very pale red headed mate of our, Jack, who gets burnt to a crisp on the most overcast day.

Our business model is one where we want to get more people thinking about agriculture. The brewery is based in the Darling Downs of Queensland, Australia. Our purpose statement is: “Beer: Your link to the land.”

There is no need to touch on all of this in the design, but hopefully there is some neat inspiration in this for someone to make a go of.

Finally, this is just one of our 16 beers. We are hoping to use this as a trial to help us select an ongoing artistic arrangement.

I forgot to specify the height of the label: It should not be greater than 76 mm to fit on a beverage can. The length can be up to 100 mm
