Convert DWG floorplan to Sketch up

I have a dwg floorpan of 500 sq metre apartment. I would like the DWG file to be readied for import and imported to Sketchup and then the walls to be accurately completed into a group (?). Having failed myself at this I would like some instruction on this so that I can be left to make modifications and add various bits of furniture and be able to play around with the rooms
