requires the design of the hydrological aspects of a residential development

as follows:

1. The person shall source a greenfield site of their choice with an overall area of circa 10 –

15 Ha.

3. The site is to be used for a new residential development with Phase 1 comprising 70

houses and a community centre with a building plan area of 1,500 m2

.

4. The local Council require that the design for the development complies with the

recommendations set out in the Carlow County Council SuDS Policy document.

5. The project must include the following:

a) Site Location

i. A description of the site (to include its location, topography, current use,

adjacent roadways and watercourses etc.).

ii. An overall Site Location Map clearly showing the site in relation to nearby

identifiable features e.g. nearest town etc.

iii. A location map of the greenfield site. This can be either a Discovery Series

map, or a print from Google Earth. It must denote the scale, north direction

and local watercourse suitable for discharge of stormwater.

iv. Site area calculations.

b) Flood assessment

i. A review of historic flooding on or adjacent to the site.

ii. An assessment of any possible impacts of the proposed development on

flooding within the catchment of the nearest surface water.

Evidence of searching both the OPW and CFRAMS databases must

be provided.

c) Details of the Development:

i. A description of the proposed development.

ii. Outline plans of the proposed development (Phase 1). This must show a

general layout of the buildings, hardstanding areas, roads / paths and parking

areas.

iii. Drainage layout (pipes and manholes with each pipe to be numbered

LEGIBLY on the layout plan) for the Phase 1 development showing

discharge location from drainage system to nearby watercourse. Attenuation

storage should be shown.

iv. Schedule of drainage pipes listing each pipe number and its corresponding

length (m).

v. Hardstanding area (roofs / roads / paths etc.) calculation identifying the area

(m2

) for each type of hardstanding and the overall hardstanding area.

d) Greenfield Site Analysis:

i. Interception Storage

ii. Median annual flood (QBAR); Q2 and Q30.

iii. Attenuation Storage

Met Eireann rainfall depth table must be included in this section.

All calculations and assumptions should be explained.

All calculations in Section d) Greenfield Site Analysis must be included in your

report as legible hand calculations on calculation sheets.
