Magento - Make my featured products extension work

Hi all, I just have problems getting my extension working. You can see it there :

I can see the options in the backend and all, no problem.
But I can't get my home page to display the chosen products in the "content" part. By the way every other code supposed to display new products doesn't work either. I guess my theme might be a bit special ? Anyway a little help is needed
PS : I WANT to know what you exactly did ! This is so easy to blow up a magento install, I might need it again ^^
