Creating an interactive shopping assistant

Looking to have an interactive shopping assistant made to help consumers narrow down the range of products from which they will be shopping. Do not know if this must be Flash, Java Script or something else.
The Assistant would ideally appear to consist of one page on which information about the products would be displayed. Choices made by the consumer on the page would dictate the next set of choices that would be displayed and so on until the final choice would connect the shopper to a specific category of product with-in the store.
We would like the assistant to look as if it is a seamless part of the shopping experience and the web-site. We also want to be able to adjust design and content easily as the products and their features change.
