Troubleshoot/Tune WP Website & Remote MySQL to Local - Check Best Option

A WP website is the only website on an E3 dedicated server. It was migrated from a VPS. The website uses remote MySQL. After the migration, the website seems slow, particularly in editing pages and posts. The remote MySQL is located in the datacenter where the original VPS was located.
You'll do the following:
1. Check error logs and troubleshoot and tune the current setup first to see if any of the perceived slowness in editing, creating new posts is real and attributable to some fault besides remote MySQL. Note, website is already in the 95th percentile for speed on tools.pingdom.com. So I am not requesting the website load quickly for visitors, that is done. I am interested in speed for users.
2. Once the website is checked and is known to be fully functional and tuned, export the database, around 14MB, from remote MySQL and import it locally. (current local copy is not current). Check website for functionality and speed. Leave website with best option, local or remote MySQL depending on speed of use in editing pages etc.
3. Provide a written report detailing any errors found, and how they were fixed. How database was moved, PHPmyAdmin or MYSQLDumper and errors found or fixed. The purpose of the report is to make sure that I could replicate your work if I needed to.
