Fix signup functionality on website

Signup feature on [login to view URL] and [login to view URL] are not working.
Basically [login to view URL] is the site directly in public_html. The login seems to work, but the signup feature does not. When a user signs up, it DOES write them to the database, but doe NOT send the verification e-mail, so they cannot verify. The three files associated with this are: [login to view URL], [login to view URL] and send-verify-email.php. The only two files I did change yesterday were the [login to view URL] file and the [login to view URL] file (but I Have restored them to original files and they still don't work). Have no clue what is happening../ not happening
This is a quick fix for a php developer, so a small fee, with a view to hiring again for website management and other jobs.
My suspicion is that it is something to do with the [login to view URL] page and the code that may have accidentally got changed.
Ideally, I would like the code to be explained and given back to me as we do not readily grant cpanel access. The fix must be made and signup become functional for payment.
