Show Configurable Products in Transactional Email - Magento 1.9

I currently am developing a custom email template in Magento 1.9 and I came across a roadblock. I was successfully able to code the image to show up in the order confirmation email however it only works on single product images and if the product is a configurable product the image and link are broken. I just need help with this one fix few lines of code.
