Build a Website for fans of old Computers

The planned site is a simple hobby site, aimed at local users of Amiga computers (1980s/1990s era computing).
- I will want to write roughly monthly categorised articles
- and upload the occasional video/audio/picture for people to enjoy. Due to it being a hobby site, i want to host video/audio/pictures on free services like Youtube/Soundcloud/Google+ to save on hosting costs.
- The idea is that main area of activity on the site will be in a forum (Kunena? SMF?) but there will be other reasons to visit the site as the non-forum content grows.
There is no need for this site to be overly flashy or complicated. To keep costs down, i would prefer free templates and extensions however if a paid option is simply better then i am open minded. I have an idea of the layout i'd like but i'm open to suggestions and recommendations. I'd like the site to be modern and appealing with easy access to articles and other content and easy for me to take over administration.
I am new to Joomla and i have done some work on a site but i've gotten stuck on extensions to do what i want. I think i've been a little too ambitious for my first site and i need help so i've decided to see what kind of offerings are available here and how much. It may be that you can help me build it myself, or you can build it and hand it over. I'll leave that pitch to yourselves: I'm interested in hearing and seeing your concepts before choosing what to do. I suspect experienced web builders will find this site very easy to create.
I do not have a strict time frame in which this project needs to be completed, so you can fit it in with other jobs you have. It would be nice to have it done by the end of June or thereabouts.
