we have an idea to get this going. we could look at the processes running on the client machine and set a timer for this activity. what is the environment of the client machine which you plan to use ?

I just completed a project that has similar functionality except that it was designed for servers that did not have much user interaction. The program was designed to make sure programs stayed running. I should be able to build a similar program for you that would allow users to track various things like you suggested. I would take the same technical approach that "gorillamonkey" suggested in their bid - by scanning current windows open.

It is quite possible to do that if you are confortable with visual basic programing. The software can show time the moment you open a file or email reading etc.

Hi, I have started a company with my univ. friends, and I am equally capable as anyone to do this project. The reason is that I have developed a similar featured system a couple of months back for a local client. And the experience of that project will help us to eradicate any future errors/bugs in your project. Your project needs a frontend, and a database at the back. Frontend can be developed in any language, but I would prefer C# because its the most efficient one. At the back, ie. the database, I would go for MS Access 2000 because of its ease of use and it is less headache for any non-computer science person to maintain it. Hello, I read some bidders talking about scanning the open windows, but this is not enough. To get it work, we need to look the active window. For scanning the used files, we need "ask" this information to the operative system. This is a easy project to be done with c and c++. All this information are easy accessible using correctly the windows api. For the reporting, I suggest exporting the data to an excel file and have a configuration file to indicate the data to be exported. Is easier and more efficient to use later.
