Modify a python script

I am looking to convert a well known peice of software from bitcoin to be compatible with the litecoin network. I can provide an example of another program that has already done this so that you can compare and impliment. I am not a python programmer and so most of the procedure calls etc are above my head. The example program i believe is in c. The code to be modified is in python. This project - once completed, will be released into the wild under opensource software so please keep this in mind when bidding - you will be helping the litecoin (and other crypto currency) community. I will also credit your work in the documentation that I am currently writing.
