The blackies duplicate cup is an annual tournament. A variable number of card players 40-48 will play 48 rounds (hands) of cards over an 8 hour period. I am looking for someone to design a database that will streamline the current process which relies on data entry into an excel spreadsheet. The aim 1 - randomise and allocate where people will sit during the tournament, 2 - results can be printed out at the end of each round. Intro: Blackies (similar to Hearts on microsoft computers) involves 4 players being dealt all the cards from the (52 card) deck. Each player passes 3 cards from their hand to the player on their right. There are 43 points in total in a deck and the aim is to avoid points. The exception to this is if a player takes all the points during a round resulting in a negative score There are duplicate decks so that each player sitting in the north position will have the same cards on tables 1 through to 10. Same for east, west and south Scoring: A player's score at the end of the round is rated against each of the other players in his seat. The player who performs best (i.e. takes the fewest points in a round) gets the highest ranking points. If there are 40 players on the evening, hence 10 sitting in the north position, at the end of each round those players are ranked 1-10 (10 being the best performance) For example at the end of a round everyone in the north position received 10 points but you received 1 point, you would receive 10 ranking points (as the best performance) and the rest would receive the average of ranking points 1-9 (i.e. (1+2+3+4+5+6+7+8+9)/9 =6). The person with the highest number of ranking points at the end of the night wins. Passing Cup: The player to your right's (the person you passed 3 cards to before the round began) ranking points score is calculated towards your passing cup. The person with the lowest points wins. Handicap Cup: Players who have played greater than 3 times are given a handicap based on their average scores over all the tournaments they have ever played. Player Movements: Rounds 1-3 have players sitting at the same table before moving (randomly) to another for rounds 4-6 before being moved to another table for rounds 7-9. At the end of each round players will move seats. e.g on table 1 north and east swap positions after the first round while on table 2 south and east might swap positions. Changing Tables: After these first 9 rounds players sit for 4 rounds before moving tables (i.e. moving after rounds 13, 17, 21 etc). This changes in round 38 where players will sit for 5 rounds at the one table. During these 5 rounds players who enter the night with a ranking 1-4 will sit on table 1. rankings 5-8 on table 2 etc. Re-ranking: At the end of round 42 there is a re-ranking based on the performance on the night. The player with the highest ranking points is assigned top, 2nd highest becomes number 2 etc. The final rounds 43-48 are with players re-ranked 1-4 on table 1, 5-8 on table 2 etc. Randomising seating: We have tried to randomise the seating arrangements aside from rounds 38 onwards. So what would I like? - a database where the 4 scores from each table can be entered at the end of each round and this be calculated into ranking points. - the passing and handicap cup progress scores can be calculated from the results of the entries at the end of each round. - An error will show up if a table has incorrectly entered the scores - at the end of a round the total of the 4 players' points will equal 43, unless one player takes all the points in which case he receives -2 and the other three receive 24. - the results of the regular comp and passing cup and handicap cup can be printed at the end of each round - Where a person sits is randomised - The system can function whether there are as few as 24 players or as many as 48. - A re-ranking system based on the results of the night could be implemented. - Ability to track individual player performance
