On myspace, a user can search for bands by zip code. If you click on the music heading at the top, it opens a new level of menu where there is a search link. This search page is where you can enter the zip and radius. Here is a direct link to the music search page: [login to view URL]
What I would like is to have a script where I can enter which genres to include and exclude (a list of available myspace genres as radio boxes where the choices are “include” and “exclude”) This form with the radio boxes will also have a text box to enter zip and a dropdown to enter radius. I'd like the script to query myspace with the zip and radius as if you filled out the form normally (using the 'any genre' for genre) and then for each band it lists, look at the genres (the genres are listed on the output of the myspace form naturally so we don't actually have to look into the profiles). If one of the genres the band listed contains an “excluded” genre, it ignores the band and moves on to the next. If it contains an “included” genre, it collects their friendID and puts it into a text file that will be downloadable at the end of the script. If the band contains an “included” and an “excluded” genre, the script should ignore them. The file name of the text file should be the zip code we entered in the beginning.
