Fix PHP sports website scraper (stage 2)

I have some PHP code which is designed to take data from a football results website and place it into a MySQL database. There are three outstanding issues for which I require fixes: 1. By the time the team names reach the database some utf8 double-encoding appears to have taken place in those which contain non-Latin characters. I would like the code fixed so that the team names get saved to my database correctly. 2. The two scrapers that form the core of the software (one to scrape uris and the other to scrape per match information) both have memory leaks that cause crashes. I would like these resolving since the scrapers need to be left to run for a long time to retrieve the necessary information. 3. The data on the website is categorised by {country | competition} and at present I have to manually type out which pairings to scrape. I would like to be able to interact with the code so that if, for example, if I want to scrape country = "England" the code cycles through the possible competitions ("Premier League", "Championship", etc.) and I give a simple "y/n" to determine which to scrape.
