1) A static FEA analysis in ANSYS is required of a wind turbine main shaft to determine suitability of the geometry. The model of the main shaft and the Ultimate Load Cases are provided. Redesign of main shaft (modification to the size of fillets using Solidworks or ANSYS) to be done accordingly until optimal design achieved. Verification of results with manual/empirical hand calculations. 2) Upon verifying a suitable geometry based on ULC, a fatigue analysis thereafter is required in NCode Design Life software. Fatigue load data will be provided. Verification of results with manual/empirical hand calculations. 3) Fatigue damage data corresponding to each load case shall be recorded to allow the creation of a online monitoring tool. The online monitoring tool shall be able to map/match against the fatigue data recorded (from task 2 above) when it is used in real-time. 4) Technical report required to support the above 3 tasks. Report should contain the methodology undertaken with its justification, calculations, results obtained, conclusions. 5) A further section to the report studying the possibility to use the approach taken in this project in automotive, aerospace and naval application.
