Quirk - Senior Java Engineer

The brave and curious minds at Quirk are on the hunt for a Senior Engineer to join their team. You will be working with a team of talented front-end and back-end engineers who are passionate about finding the most innovative solutions to challenging development problems. While our core competency lies in writing code using Java/Groovy, HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript we are known to dabble in other technologies from time to time. We use a variety of tools and frameworks on our projects including but not limited to: Grails web framework HippoCMS MySQL, MongoDB and Redis databases jQuery and AngularJS PhoneGap Bootstrap The ideal candidate will be: dynamic and passionate driven and goal orientated curious and have a passion for all things related to web development like working on and being challenged by a variety of work In this role, you will be expected to: Own the work you work on and not be afraid to take the lead or initiative on a project Work on a wide variety of projects using server-side (Java and Groovy) and client-side (JavaScript) programming languages and frameworks Perform development and maintenance on projects to agreed timelines and with high quality output Read, understand and help write technical specifications, analyse product requirements, design product features, implement and test software components Adhere to and enforce coding standards within the team, and ensure conformity of work to software quality standards Accurately account for time spent on client projects on timesheets Research and keep abreast of key technical developments and innovations within the industry and bring fresh ideas to the team Support and review junior team members' work and give constructive feedback We'll be looking out for candidates with experience along the lines of: 5+ years’ commercial Java programming experience. Experience with other programming languages will be taken into consideration, but a solid understanding of the Java language and recent experience is a must. Good experience with relation databases (eg. MySQL, SQLServer, Oracle) Exposure to non-relational databases like MongoDB and/or Redis Strong JavaScript development skills Web development experience in HTML and CSS Git, Subversion or similar version control experience
