No Short CutsI want to setup an OpenVpn Linux server Virtual Machine. I would like all internet traffic to route through Linux server on the Virtual Machine. The VM is installed on VirtualBox on my Desktop Windows 10 PC. I also have a Router with fixed IP address. The VPN client will be my Windows 10 PC. So you will need Server/Client keys/certificates to be created. I have installed Linux Mint and binaries already. I’m having trouble with the port forwarding and routing internet traffic part and I have not been able to establish connection. I previously paid some guy to get help on Freelancer for someone to do this, but after powering up the virtual machine, the VPN server stopped and no longer worked. It was also on Ubuntu 12 which is not stable. Linux Mint seems to be more stable. There are plenty of guides on this so it should be easy for someone. Im just not familiar with IP routes and port forwarding through firewall. 1) The VPN should start when VM is powered on 2) The setup should not corrupt. 3) It should start up every time not just once. 4) Need to Port forward through billion Router and Nortons Antivurus. 5) If you can backup the Virtual Machine also that would be good for me. I need someone with experience setting up OpenVpn for PRIVACY. So don’t bid if you can’t do it. NO SHORT CUTS . No hosted VM. i enjoy these projects, because open source virtualisation is the great compared to physical machines. I have just completed a infrastructure project for a construction company in australia where i was able to convert physical machines into vms runnign on a hypervisor. I suggest to you the following, and my suggestions come from experience of solutions i have implemented into a commercial environment. To start with all linux editions shoudl work as a vpn server within a vm, but the preferred method is using centos as a vm. CentOS is a derivative of redhat and is proven is production env. and being open source their is no licensing requirements as compared to redhat. 1) The VPN should start when VM is powered on ( a script enables the service to start which is turned on) 2) The setup should not corrupt. ( i wouldnt offer you my commercial exp. if i thought it would break. I live by the rule of, i never ever implement a solution if it breaks) 3) It should start up every time not just once. ( refer to point 1) 4) Need to Port forward through billion Router and Nortons Antivurus. ( 2 areas to look at are . does the operating system on the vm have a firewall which requires ports open, as well as port forwarding needs to forward to a static IP address.). 5) If you can backup the Virtual Machine also that would be good for me. ( I would implement a scipt which backs up your vm. Also snapshots are great as you can restore very quickly.).

Hi, I can help you, But you architecture is not the best one. In your place I will put some cheap linux device ( like raspberry pi ) for the vpn server, it cost some $35USD, almost no power consumption and most important it will not depend of the windows host/antivirus/change in configuration and so on. also to work in a environment like u have is a bit complicate to do it from out side. I can do this... but that setup doesn't make much sense. What are you willing to achieve in matter of privacy by just routing your traffic through locally installed VM on a same physical machine? It seems as waste of time of a freelancer and waste of your money. That use case would not add anything to your PRIVACY. If you really want some privacy / security advice from an expert feel free to hire me.

Hello, I have already used this configuration due to hardware constraints in the past with OpenVPN and VirtualBox and can definitely set this up for you. This project shouldn't take longer than a couple of hours. Note, I am in the top 2% for the freelancer VPN exams and top 4% for Networking. My completion rate is 100%, but Freelancer calculates this with currently open projects which my profile will show: two long-term projects and one which will be closed shortly. So the steps I will take to implement the VPN/Network setup are: Setup OpenVPN to run on startup Setup OpenVPN Server Cert, Client Cert and Client Key Check listening ports Edit the Virtual Machine network settings Port forwarding from router to VM IP (Anti-Virus shouldn't even see traffic with correct VM network setup) Snapshot the VM and backup on seprate media: another HDD, USB drive etc. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
