We would like a custom Moodle block made that allows users to export all “Single Simple Discussion” forum posts in a course to HTML. I think there should be a lot of functionality that can be taken from Moodle core and modified accordingly.
The new block must:
• Only export posts from the “Single Simple Discussion” forum type and ignore any other forum in the course.
• Export the posts along with all of the attached files. There is typically quite a number of attached files and overall attachment size can be quite large – e.g. 2-3GB.
• Automatically download files when the export is initialised and save as a ZIP file. (Similar functionality to Moodle core “exporting to portfolio”).
• Allow users to choose and export individual Single Simple Discussio forums but also have the option to export all Single Simple Discussion forums from a course.
• Allow any user who has permissions to view the course to have the option to export. This is to include users with the standard Moodle role “student”.
• Work in Moodle 2.5 & 2.6
• Only show export options in the block when the course is marked as complete. Completion would be managed by the standard Moodle “Course Completion” functionality, so the new block would have to hook into this somehow.
• Be in line with Moodle coding standards.
There is some existing Moodle functionality, described below, that may make the job simpler:
1. Exporting to Portfolio [login to view URL]
Export functionality already exists in Moodle and allows individual discussions in forums to be exported. However, the export option is not currently available for the “Single Simple Discussion Forum” type which is the one we use. A Moodle tracker mentions this lack of functionality [login to view URL]
2. Course Completion Status Block [login to view URL]
This existing block might be useful for the course completion element of this job. In this core block additional information can be shown to the user when a course is completed, which could point to a similar way to restrict export options, based on course completion.
Please only quote if you are experienced in working with Moodle and have the relevant skills. If a good job is done on this project there may be more work in the future.
Many thanks,
Richard
