VB6 App. Errors

I have an application that is a contact manager, email software and I have two problems with it. 1. When I try to input a contact with a ' in it such as O'Brien the software won't accept it. It doesn't give an error but just locks up. 2. When it is sending mail and is disconnected by the receiving server the program sends an error 'Error 55 file already open" when it tries to connect again. For example if I'm sending out a 1000 emails it might go through 300 then will disconnect from the server. It automatically logs back on but when it does, it throws the runtime error 55. I'm using a third party smtp and pop3 component. Wondering if anyone has experience with this and can help by bidding on this.
